Interior Water Damage

Blistering Shingles

Cause - A cosmetic defect in the opinion of some roofing manufacturers and an indicator of reduced shingle life in the opinion of some building professionals.

Lack Of Proper Ventilation

Cause - Improper design in original build. Poor construction on a remodel or improper installation.

Excessive Loss of Granules

Cause - Possible manufacturer defect. Most common is aging usually associated with normal wear and tear. Effectiveness of shingle then comes into play. How well does my roof shed the elements.

Missing Shingles

Cause - Wind and or storm damage. Improper installation, possible through nail or missing, or missing nail or staple. Rotted shingles that have torn away.

Excessive Algae

Cause - Some black stains on asphalt roof shingles are caused by a black algae (sometimes misnamed as a black fungus or even a "mildew") . Algae is more likely to grow on shaded roof sections, while bleed-through stains emanate from single points regardless of sun or shade exposure.

Flashing Damage

Cause - Possibly poor workmanship on original installation. Aging and house settling can also cause flashing to come free of its original location. Even constant element abuse puts its wear on flashing.

Interior / Exterior Mold or Rot

Cause - Water or mildew that does not ventilate properly can cause this type of damage. If the interior of your roof does not breathe properly and stays damp. This will slowly tear down the stability of your property. Issue that go unresolved can cause major repair problems.

Curling or Cupping Shingles

Cause - Curling happens on the corners of shingles, where the ends appear to be bent. They can curl either upwards or under themselves. Like most roofing problems, curling is do to moisture or an improperly ventilated attic space. However, there are other causes that result in curling as well.

Buckling Shingles

Cause - Buckling can occur when the vapor barrier know as felt is installed wrong. Felt can rise and buckle if it's not stretched and applied to your roof decking properly. Your roof decking is the plywood sheets that cover your home. When these boards are not properly fastened and nailed to the framing they can buckle as well.

Hail Damage

Cause - Pieces of hail, various sizes falling and striking the exterior of the house. This leaves an indention in the shingle, flashing, or soft metal. The damage can not only be cosmetic, but can actual shorten the life span of the roof.
