Should I choose a lighter colored shingle to help lower Heating and Air Condition costs?
If your home has proper ventilation, this is not necessary.  Ventilation will help keep your roof cool, if it was designed properly.  If your home is surrounded by trees, you may elect to choose darker colored shingle or an algae resistant shingle.  Algae resistant shingle should resist algae growth for approximately 10 years depending upon your area. Regular roof cleaning will help prevent stains even longer.  Cleaning your roof and gutters 1 to 2 times a year will help to lengthen the life of your roof and gutter products.

What is the difference between 15# and 30# felt?  Which one should I use?
Most all roofs should use 15# felt unless the design requires 30#.  Low-pitched roofs that are nearly flat require the heavier 30# felt.  You may request the use of 30# felt, however you should make sure that your ventilation is sufficient so your roof doesn't sweat excessively.  Roof sweating will take years off the life of your roof.

My roof is over 10 years old, should I repair it? 
It is usually imprudent to repair a roof that is older than 10 years.  Most roofing companies that provide quality warranties will not offer a proposal to repair, however each circumstance is different and you should have a professional examine your roof for a definite answer.  Repairing an older roof can worsen a situation that is best served with a complete roof replacement.

Should my roofing company have insurance? 
Yes, without insurance you as the homeowner can be held responsible for the medical care of an injured worker if an accident does occur, and for any damage to your property that takes place too.

How do I know if my roofers insurance is valid? 
You can contact the policy holder directly.  Your roofer should be able to provide their information to you.  The policy holder should then fax or email you proper insurance certification.

Do you provide a warranty for repairs and roofing projects? 
Yes, we offer a one year warranty on all repair work and a 5 year on all new roofs.  We also provide a 10 year manufacturer warranty against algae.

Does CZE have insurance and workers Compensation? 
Yes, we carry general liability, automobile insurance and workers compensation.  It is expensive, but if you care about your employees and your customers it is mandatory.

What does CZE Roofing & Remodeling do if it rains while you are working on my house? 
We monitor the weather daily, and when there is going to be a tear off or major construction to a property we know how long it will take to complete the project, we check multiple weather sources to ensure that weather is not a factor.  We also have enough tarps to cover your home if need be.

Does CZE Roofing & Remodeling recommend adding a second layer of shingles? 
No, not in Georgia. Adding a second layer adds un-needed weight to the foundation and also traps in moisture. Also, adding a second layer only saves money in the short term. Two layers of roofing are very expensive to remove when the inevitable roofing project arises.

Does the State of Georgia provide any requirements to become a roofing contractor? 
No, unfortunately the state of Georgia only requires a business license.

I have 1" x 6" decking on my home, is there anything I should do differently when I do my roofing project? 
Yes, when the old roof is removed the 1" x 6" decking will lift off of the rafters and will need to be re-nailed using 8 penny ring shank nails. If this step is not followed you will be replacing your roof in 4-6 years.

Do I need to be concerned about the exhaust pipes for my HVAC system and hot water heater? 
Be worried…a roofer should always make sure that the exhaust pipes are reconnected after roofing your home. They should also replace the roof jack, storm collar and caps for these systems.

What is a 4:12 roof pitch? 
4:12 refers to a roof that rises 4 inches to every 12 inches of travel.

What is modified Bitumen? 
Modified Bitumen is a roofing product used for shallow pitched roofs. Modified has sealed seams and is the choice for any roof pitch 4:12 or less. Modified can be applied with a propane heated torch, with adhesive or cold process and mopped or using heated asphalts.

How do I know that I need to replace my roof? 
If you roof is older than 15 years in Georgia it is always recommended to have a roofing professional inspect the system. Most people wait until they have a leak, which ends up costing them extra money in decking replacement and dry wall repair. See our Warning Signs for more information.

How long does a roofing project take to complete? 
Generally 1 to 2 days, possibly 3 if you have a much larger roof.
